Nanay village

Mount Ungor, located in the Yangikurgan district of the Namangan region, is shrouded in legends. This mountain serves as a natural border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. It is here that the famous Namangan apples, celebrated in a well-known song, are cultivated. Nearby lies the village of Nanay, a place that comes alive in the hearts of people with the arrival of spring.

Nanay village, nestled in the foothills of the Chatkal Range of the Tian Shan Mountains, has been a beloved retreat for residents of the Fergana Valley for decades. Visitors from across the country also flock here to recharge their spirits. The primary allure is the pristine mountain air, often described as healing and magical.

Surrounding Nanay are snow-capped peaks that remain white for most of the year. Even during the hottest summer days, the village remains cool, leaving visitors feeling refreshed and invigorated throughout the day. The locals are renowned for their hospitality, and many are happy to host travelers for the duration of their stay.

At the heart of the village flows the Podshootasay River, fed by springs from the high mountains. Its waters are crystal clear and pure.

The residents of Nanay and nearby villages primarily engage in horticulture and farming. On the mountain slopes, you’ll find Uzbek and Kyrgyz villages such as Mamay, Kizilyozi, Zarkent, Poramon, and Nov. Local gardeners have mastered the art of growing apples and black plums, and their skill in cultivating and preserving potatoes is equally impressive. It’s heartening to see how productively they utilize every inch of the mountainous terrain.

Nanay village itself has become a popular destination for vacationers from across the country, leading to the development of numerous recreational centers. The names Nanay and Mamay are linked to the legacy of Mongolian military leaders. The renowned Russian academic, orientalist, and Turkologist Vasily Bartold once lived here, conducting his scholarly work in this very region.

The area is rich in medicinal plants and trees, making it an ideal location for beekeeping. Beehives can be seen scattered across gardens and elevated areas, a testament to the thriving apiculture practiced by the locals.
