Nestled 80 kilometers from Tashkent, Chimgan stands as Uzbekistan’s most popular ski resort. Located on the slopes of the Chimgan Mountains, which form part of the Chatkal range of the western Tian Shan, this destination offers an escape into nature’s splendor.

The Chimgan Valley, perched at an altitude of 1200-1600 meters above sea level, is encircled by majestic mountains. The Greater Chimgan Mountain, soaring to 3309 meters, dominates the landscape, providing a stunning backdrop to the entire valley. This region, encompassing beauty spots like Gulkam and Beldersay, is a haven of natural beauty and biodiversity. Being part of the Ugam-Chatkal National Park, it is protected for its diverse mountain landscapes and ecological significance.

Chimgan is often referred to as «Uzbek Switzerland» for its stunning natural beauty and health-improving environment. The mountain slopes are adorned with ancient fir forests, while the valleys are crisscrossed by crystal-clear mountain streams, known locally as «sai.» The name «Chimgan» or «Chim yon» translates to «green grass» or «green valley,» aptly describing the lush, fragrant landscape dotted with vibrant wildflowers and herbs.

The transformation of Chimgan into a recreational haven began in the pre-revolution period. In the late 19th century, Russian military doctors built a hospital here, recognizing the therapeutic benefits of the mountain air. The construction of the country residence of the Governor-General of Turkestan further boosted its popularity, establishing Chimgan as a favored retreat for relaxation and recovery.

Today, the Chimgan tourist complex boasts a range of amenities including high-rise hotels, cottages, a cable railway, and a variety of shops, bars, restaurants, and cafes. The area also features numerous recreational facilities such as sanatoriums and summer camps, catering to visitors seeking both short and extended stays.

Winter Wonderland: Chimgan’s peak tourist season occurs in winter and spring. The winter months, from December to March, attract enthusiasts of downhill skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding, and free-riding. The well-maintained slopes and facilities make it a hotspot for winter sports.

Spring and Summer Adventures: Spring heralds the arrival of alpinists, rock climbers, and sky surfers. The warmer months offer a plethora of outdoor activities including mountain trekking, paragliding, and horseback riding. The Chimgan mountains entice visitors with their lush apple and fir forests, vibrant barberry and dog rose bushes, roaring rivers, serene lakes, and cascading waterfalls.
