One of the favorite attractions among the residents of Baku is the iconic Baku Ferris Wheel. Towering at an impressive height of 60 meters, it is located in the seaside park that stretches toward State Flag Square.
Construction of the Ferris wheel began in the fall of 2013, initiated by a Dutch company. Previously, Baku had a similar attraction, but this new addition was set to be twice as large. The initial timeline promised that the Ferris wheel would be operational by the end of that year. However, the opening was ultimately delayed until the spring of 2014. The government provided an official explanation for the postponement, stating that additional testing was required to ensure the ride’s safety and functionality. The Dutch engineers conducted all necessary preparatory tests and procedures, and finally, in March, the new Ferris wheel was unveiled in Baku. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of the country’s president and his wife, adding a touch of prestige to the event.
A ride on the Ferris wheel can last anywhere from ten minutes to half an hour, depending on the speed set by the operator. The attraction features 30 cabins, each capable of accommodating up to eight passengers. Ticket prices for one rotation range from 3 to 5 manats, with the cost varying based on the age of the rider. Notably, children under the age of six can enjoy the ride for free.
The Baku Ferris Wheel offers not just a thrilling experience but also breathtaking views of the city and the Caspian Sea, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.
