Hello, please advise, which winery is better to visit for a tasting?
We’ve been to almost all of them — I would recommend Van Ardi Winery (it’s probably the most presentable one and the wines are good). You can also go to Alluria Winery (these are natural wines, but they’re more for enthusiasts), though the food there is delicious. Voskeni Winery is nice and cozy, but better in spring. Gevorkian Winery is located in Yerevan in a rather unattractive surrounding area — there’s only a tasting hall there, but the wines are interesting and the atmosphere is warm. All of these are within an hour from the city.
Also Tushpa Wine Cellar — good wines and tasty food, though it feels like they’re already a bit tired of visitors.
Ah, and also Voskevaz Winery — they built it like a castle. There’s no vineyard there, but in this kind of weather it’s just perfect. And the wines are good too.
Thank you very much. And how did you get there? I don’t quite understand — do you need to book a transfer or do taxis easily go outside the city? Did you book in advance or can you just arrive?
It depends on how many people there are. We always travel in a big group, so we take a private transfer. You can easily reach most of them by taxi, but it’s better to make sure in advance that the taxi can take you back from there as well, not only bring you there (Yandex Go). You need to message all the wineries in advance, and you can ask them whether taxis come to pick people up from there.
They go anywhere without problems. Just set the taxi to wait and return with the same driver, because from the wineries you might end up waiting a long time for a taxi back.Posted by: @elvirado taxis easily go outside the city?
If you want something very close to Yerevan, then choose Van Ardi Winery or Voskevaz Winery. If you don’t have much time, you can visit Gevorkian Winery right in Yerevan. (gevorkianwinery.com)
We first took a taxi to some industrial area and were shocked that a winery could be somewhere there, but actually inside the building it’s very nice — a cool cellar, an interesting tour, and tasty wines. Visiting wineries with vineyards is especially great in spring, when there’s not yet unbearable heat.
It’s just that it will be my birthday and I’d like to spend the first half of the day at a beautiful winery.
If you want a beautiful one — then either Voskevaz Winery (no vineyard, but a beautiful castle), or Van Ardi Winery (European look with a bell tower), or Alluria Winery (the wines are an acquired taste, but there is a vineyard, they feed and pour generously, and the new buildings are beautiful). At Voskevaz you definitely need to book in advance. Here is their phone number: +374 99 550970.
I just spoke with them — it’s better to book a couple of days in advance, but if there are only a few of you, you can also come on the same day. The cost is 3,000 drams per person (≈ $7.5) for just a tour, and with a tasting it’s from $40 to $100 per person, depending on the number of wines and the category. Better to call — they’ll explain everything in detail.Posted by: @armenAt Voskevaz you definitely need to book in advance. Here is their phone number: +374 99 550970.
