Hey everyone! I’m planning a day trip to Shakhrisabz from Samarkand and could really use some tips. Does anyone know of a private driver or guide I could hire for the day? Or maybe even a group tour option? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey Nikok! You’re in luck—there are tons of taxis right outside the Registan that head to Shakhrisabz. You can either share a ride with others or grab a whole taxi for yourself if you prefer some privacy. It’s pretty straightforward to find one.

Just a heads up, though: there’s not a whole lot to see in Shakhrisabz, so you might not need a guide. The sights are fairly easy to navigate on your own. Hope that helps!

Guys, is it worth dedicating a whole day to Shahrisabz?

Well, you see, Shahrisabz is not as rich in historical landmarks as Samarkand. You can easily spend half a day there, but not the the whole day, that's unlikely. There isn’t much to see unless you’re particularly interested in history and the era of Timur and everything associated with it. Still, half a day is more than enough.

In my personal opinion, the journey from Samarkand to Shahrisabz is actually more interesting than the city itself. The road goes through the mountains via the Kitab Pass (by the way, they prepare the most delicious tandir (meat) in Uzbekistan there). Along the way, you can also see the Plateau of Demons and the cave of the biblical David.

And if you go now, you might catch the blooming mountain poppies at the Kitab Pass.
