And we took the train from Bishkek to Balykchi today.
It's epic

You just can't take your eyes off the views. And when the serpentine started, it was intense—not just from the heat, but the adrenaline rush, with cliffs literally centimeters from the tracks.

But it's pure thrill, respect to the Kyrgyz Railway folks who set this up, both the train itself and the route
If you get a chance, go for it. It's totally worth the time and emotions

What train is this? Can you share more info? Do I need to choose a compartment ticket for views like that?

It's the Bishkek-2 to Balykchi (Rybachye) Beach train
Tickets on the railway.kg website
Or in the app of the same name
The views are amazing everywhere
At least, besides compartments, in VIP and luxury wagons, they have the same wide windows

(Additional info: This scenic route, operated by Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, winds along the southern shore of stunning Issyk-Kul Lake, offering breathtaking mountain vistas. The journey typically lasts 4-5 hours and is especially thrilling during the serpentine sections with steep drops. Book tickets in advance, especially in summer, and consider VIP or luxury for extra comfort. Travelers often pack snacks and enjoy the ride with open windows for photos!)
