Here are two main options for reaching the "Tajik Sea" for tourists traveling without a car:
Minibuses to the reservoir depart from the Panjshanbe Bazaar stop. Simply ask around for the minibus heading to Kayrakkum Reservoir. Marshrutka No. 40 definitely operates on this route, but confirming with the driver is always a safer option.
You can book a taxi using the Maxim app. A good drop-off point is the entrance to the Bahoriston Sanatorium. However, if you plan to swim, it might be better to choose a different location. The beach near Bahoriston is rocky and not ideal for swimming.
In the summer, guards at the neighboring sanatorium (which has a slightly better beach but lacks changing rooms) charged 10 somoni per person for entry. In winter, entry was free. Be prepared that entry fees may apply for sanatorium access.
In the summer, taxi drivers often wait near the entrance to Bahoriston Sanatorium. Minibuses heading back to the city also depart from this location.
During the off-season, taxis might not be readily available, so you may need to use the app or rely on a marshrutka.
The last minibus to the city usually departs around 6–7 PM. It’s a good idea to confirm this timing with the driver on your way there.
