Friday Mosque of Khujand

The Friday Mosque in Khujand is not only the largest mosque in the city but also the biggest in the entire Sughd region. Inside, the mosque is impeccably clean and neatly arranged, with carpets lining the floor throughout. Every Friday, a large crowd gathers for prayer, often filling the mosque to capacity, with some worshippers resorting to praying in the courtyard outside due to space limitations.

What makes Khujand’s Friday Mosque truly unique is that it is composed of two distinct sections: the central modern white building with a striking blue dome and two older wings painted in yellow. These two sections stand in sharp contrast to one another—while the modern area is bright, white, and spacious, the older wings are made of wood, with a more colorful, intricate design.
