Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Yerevan – Capital of Armenia

Upon your arrival at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, you’ll be warmly greeted by your driver and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the capital. After checking in (available from 12:00 noon), you’ll have the rest of the day free to relax or begin your personal exploration of the city. Yerevan, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited capitals, welcomes visitors with its friendly atmosphere, beautiful architecture, and the ever-present view of snow-capped Mount Ararat. Whether you choose to stroll through local parks, discover quaint cafés, or simply enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals, this day offers a gentle introduction to the charms of Armenia.

Day 2Yerevan – Echmiadzin – Zvartnots – City Tour

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, set out on a spiritual and historical journey to Echmiadzin, the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and home to its spiritual leader, the Catholicos of All Armenians. Often regarded as the Armenian Vatican, Echmiadzin is considered the oldest cathedral in the world, and its spiritual aura continues to inspire believers and visitors alike.

From here, drive to the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral, once one of the most stunning architectural achievements of medieval Armenia. Though it was destroyed by an earthquake in the 10th century, the remaining columns and foundation evoke the grandeur of a site that UNESCO has honored as part of the world’s heritage since 2000.

Return to Yerevan, affectionately called the “Pink City” due to its buildings made of soft-colored volcanic tuff stone. Begin your city exploration at the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex on Tsitsernakaberd Hill, a deeply moving site commemorating the victims of the 1915 genocide.

Continue to the Cascade Monument, a monumental limestone staircase with 572 steps, offering sweeping panoramic views over the city and Mount Ararat. Along the descent, admire the open-air sculptures and fountains lining the stairway. Your walking tour continues past the Opera House, elegant Swan Lake, Republic Square, and the lively Abovyan Avenue, each highlighting Yerevan’s blend of classical, Soviet, and modern architectural styles.

Conclude the day with a delightful welcome dinner at a traditional Armenian restaurant, where you’ll enjoy authentic dishes, rich flavors, and perhaps a local folk performance.

Day 3:Yerevan – Garni – Geghard – Lake Sevan – Dilijan

Start your day with a drive to Garni, a village famous for its Greco-Roman style Temple of the Sun, the only pagan monument in Armenia that withstood the widespread Christianization of the country in the 4th century. Set against a backdrop of rolling hills and the Azat River gorge, the temple stands as a tribute to ancient Armenian civilization and pre-Christian beliefs.

Continue to the nearby Geghard Monastery, a remarkable complex partly carved into solid rock. Named after the “holy spear” that pierced Christ’s side, Geghard is not only architecturally astounding but also spiritually resonant. The combination of dramatic natural surroundings and intricate carvings make this a truly magical site, which earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000.

Next, travel northeast to the emerald-blue waters of Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world. Stop at Sevanavank Monastery, perched on a peninsula that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and lake. The complex includes two ancient churches – Surb Arakelots and Surb Karapet, alongside numerous khachkars (ornately carved stone crosses).

In the late afternoon, arrive in Dilijan, a resort town often called the “Switzerland of Armenia” due to its lush forests and peaceful setting.
Overnight in Dilijan.

Day 4:Dilijan – Haghpat – Sanahin – Yerevan

After breakfast, head north toward the Lori Province, one of Armenia’s most picturesque and culturally rich regions. Your first stop will be at the Haghpat Monastery, a masterpiece of Armenian religious architecture built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, Haghpat’s location on a verdant hillside above the Debed River makes it not only a place of faith but also of natural beauty.

Then visit Sanahin Monastery, also included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000. The name “Sanahin” translates as “this one is older than that one,” suggesting its seniority over Haghpat. Together, these two monastic complexes showcase the intellectual and spiritual life of medieval Armenia and are prime examples of Armenian religious architecture fused with Byzantine influences.

Following your exploration of the north, return to Yerevan through scenic routes that offer glimpses of rural Armenian life, forested valleys, and dramatic cliffs.

After breakfast at your hotel, check out by 12:00 noon. Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some final leisure time for souvenir shopping or a relaxing stroll in the city center. A comfortable transfer will take you to Yerevan International Airport, where your unforgettable UNESCO World Heritage Tour of Armenia comes to a close.

My experience on the UNESCO World Heritage Tour in Armenia was nothing short of incredible. From the serene shores of Lake Sevan to the haunting beauty of the Geghard Monastery carved into rock, every day revealed another layer of Armenia’s deep and spiritual heritage. I was especially moved by the visit to Etchmiadzin and the ruins of Zvartnots, which left a lasting impression. Our guide, Arman, made the journey truly unforgettable—his warmth, knowledge, and deep love for his homeland brought each monument and story to life. You could feel his passion for Armenian culture in every detail he shared, and it enriched our experience beyond words. I am deeply grateful to Arman for making this trip feel personal and meaningful. I returned home with a heart full of memories and a newfound appreciation for Armenia’s history and people. Highly recommend this tour to all cultural explorers!
