Route in brief:

Nukus – Mizzakhan Necropolis – Gaur Kala – Nukus

Embark on an enriching journey through the heart of Karakalpakstan, where history and culture await at every turn. Your adventure begins at 9:00 AM in Nukus, where you’ll be greeted by your guide and driver before heading to the renowned Savitsky Karakalpak State Museum of Art. Dubbed the «Louvre of the Desert,» this museum houses over 100,000 artworks, including ancient Khorezmian art, Karakalpak folk art, and rediscovered Soviet avant-garde masterpieces. It’s a must-see for art enthusiasts, offering a unique perspective on Russian and Soviet history in a global context.

Next, delve deeper into the region’s rich history at the State Museum of History and Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Explore its fascinating archaeological, ethnographic, and historical exhibits, each telling the story of this ancient land.

After a delightful lunch, we head to the Mizdahkan Archaeological Complex. This ancient necropolis is a hidden gem, showcasing a remarkable blend of antique and medieval architecture. Marvel at the stunning Mazlumkhansulu Mausoleum, Khalifa Erezhepa Mausoleum, Shamun Nabi Mazaar, and the ruins of Gaur Kala, an ancient city dating back to the 7th-3rd centuries BC. These awe-inspiring sites stand as silent witnesses to centuries of history.

At 5:00 PM, we return to Nukus, filled with memories and a deeper understanding of this captivating region’s past.

I recently had the pleasure of joining the Mizdakhan and Gaur-Kala tour, and I can confidently say it was a truly unforgettable experience. From the moment we met our guide, everything was incredibly well-organized and seamless. The tour began with a visit to the Savitsky Art Museum, which was a highlight for me as it offered a deep dive into the fascinating and diverse history of the region’s art. The next stop, the State Museum of Karakalpakstan, allowed us to immerse ourselves in the rich cultural and archaeological heritage of the area.

However, the real magic happened when we visited the Mizdakhan Necropolis and Gaur-Kala ruins. The ancient mausoleums and historical sites felt almost surreal, offering a powerful glimpse into the past. I am deeply grateful to Shahina Travel for curating such a memorable journey and providing us with an exceptional guide. Highly recommended for history and culture lovers!
