The Memorial Complex of Khoja Bakhouddin Naqshbandi near Bukhara is a significant cultural and spiritual destination that should not be missed. This site is one of the most revered Muslim shrines, known and respected by Muslims worldwide.
Khoja Bakhouddin Naqshbandi (1318-1389) was a prominent theologian of the 14th century and the founder of the Sufi Order «Naqshbandia.» He was buried 12 kilometers from Bukhara in his native village of Kasri Orifon. Interestingly, the site of his current tomb was once a pagan temple.
Naqshbandi was the spiritual mentor of the famous conqueror Amir Temur and made the pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) 32 times. He advocated for modesty and simplicity, rejecting luxury. His philosophy was encapsulated in the principle: «Dil ba joru, dast ba kor» («The heart with God, hands at work»).
