Uzbek Money (Sum) - UZS

The Uzbek Sum, often stylized as UZS and also known as som or soum, stands as the sovereign currency of Uzbekistan. This monetary unit was officially introduced in the year 1994.

The currency is available in a spectrum of denominations. Each banknote is distinguishable by its unique color scheme and is adorned with depictions of Uzbekistan’s storied cultural and historical monuments, serving as a testament to the nation’s rich heritage. Although the entire series of banknotes is actively circulated, it is noteworthy that smaller bills, specifically those under 1000 sum, along with coins, are seldom utilized in daily commerce.

Currency exchange services are dispersed throughout the country, located in airports, hotels, bustling markets, and banks. Hotel-based currency exchange counters offer the convenience of 24/7 service, whereas other exchange offices typically commence operations at 9 a.m. and conclude their business day between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Their availability on weekends may vary, and they may not operate at all times.
