Walking Tour of Modern Baku

After your captivating exploration of Old Baku, it’s time to take a leisurely stroll along the luxurious Primorsky Boulevard. Plan to dedicate anywhere from 3 to 5 hours, or even a full day, to fully appreciate this vibrant part of the city. Upon exiting Icheri Sheher towards the sea, take a right turn, and you’ll soon encounter the charming Baku Venice complex. Here, you can meander through its picturesque pathways, snap some photos, grab a bite to eat, or simply enjoy a fresh perspective of Baku.

Adjacent to the scenic canals lies the Carpet Museum, the most colorful and distinctly Eastern establishment in the city. If you have the time, it’s worth stepping inside to explore its fascinating exhibits. However, if your schedule is tight, you can cross the road to reach the lower station of the Funicular.

The upper station is conveniently located at the entrance to Highland Park. If the funicular is out of service or you arrive outside operating hours, don’t worry—ascending on foot is a delightful option. A staircase leads you upwards, and with each flight, Baku reveals itself from a new angle.

Highland Park is an excellent spot for a leisurely walk. This expansive and meticulously maintained park features winding paths, scenic viewpoints, and a variety of restaurants and cafes. The contrast between the minarets of the Turkish mosque and the shimmering Flame Towers creates a striking visual spectacle.

Situated at the highest point in Baku, the park offers breathtaking views of the city. From here, you can gaze out over the entire Baku Bay, the promenade, the Crystal Hall, the Flag Square, the towering skyscrapers, and the ancient streets of Icheri Sheher—all laid out before you like a stunning panorama!

Feel free to wander along the charming avenues, take a seat in the shade of the trees, and relax. If you find yourself needing a break, Highland Park is home to delightful cafes where you can sip a coffee or enjoy a full meal while soaking in the magnificent views.
