I just came across some information saying that Osh no longer has its old bazaar, and that it's been replaced by a new, modern market.
But what about that authentic Eastern atmosphere? The narrow alleyways, the handcart pushers shouting "Jol! Jol!" ("Make way!"), the little cafés, the spices, and all the rest... ☹️
To be honest, that was the very first place I wanted to visit in Osh.
Has anyone been to the new market? Does it still have any atmosphere? Or is it all neat, orderly, and sadly European-style now?
That's right, the old bazaar is gone.
The new market is just a new market. Nothing more.
That unique atmosphere isn't there at the new bazaar.
You can still experience some of it at the Kara-Suu Bazaar, though. It's only about a 15-minute taxi ride away.
