Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some tips from my recent trip in December 2024 about crossing the Panjakent border—it’s pretty easy!

So, if you’re heading from Samarkand to Jartepa, I recommend using the Yandex app to grab a taxi. Just type in “Jartepa nazorat o'tkazish punkti” as your destination. The ride will set you back around 120,000 Som. You can also find shared taxis at Registan if you’re looking to save a bit.

Once you get to the border, expect to be approached by folks wanting to exchange your cash for Tajik Somoni. We found that the rates were actually better on the Uzbekistan side, so keep that in mind!

Now, when you cross into Tajikistan, you’ve got a couple of options to get to Dushanbe:

  1. Direct Taxi to Dushanbe: As soon as you step out of the border gate, drivers will be eager to take you to Dushanbe. The going rate is usually between 100-120 Somoni.

  2. Taxi to Panjakent, then Dushanbe: We were quoted 200 Somoni for a direct trip, so we opted for a shared taxi to the Panjakent Taxi Stand instead. That ride cost us just 12 Somoni each and took about 20 minutes. From there, we easily found a shared taxi to Dushanbe for 100 Somoni each, which took around 5 hours.

Hope this helps anyone planning a similar route!

Quick question—does the Yandex Go app work both in Samarkand and Bukhara? I heard it might not function in Khiva, so I’m a bit hesitant. Thanks a bunch

Khiva is pretty small, so I just walked everywhere when I was there. It’s super easy to get around!

I actually used Yandex in Khiva just couple of weeks ago and then in Bukhara also. No issues at all! It’s really affordable too.
