Itinerary

Day 1Tashkent – Khujand

Your journey begins early in the morning as you depart from Tashkent towards the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border at Oybek. This scenic drive covers a distance of 100 km (approximately 1.5 hours) and takes you through picturesque landscapes. Upon arrival at the border, you will go through customs and passport control on both sides before being greeted by your Tajik local guide and driver.

Once on the Tajik side, your driver will take you on a one-hour journey (70 km) to Khujand, one of Tajikistan’s most historic cities. Upon arrival, you will dive into the rich history of Khujand, beginning with a visit to the Sughd Historical Museum, where you can explore the region’s ancient heritage and cultural artifacts. From there, your tour continues with a visit to the Timur-Malik Fortress, an impressive historical landmark that provides insight into the military history of the area.

Next, you will head to the Mosque and Madrasah of Shaikh Muslihiddin, an architectural marvel that highlights the religious importance of Khujand. To further immerse yourself in the local culture, your next stop will be the bustling Panjshanbe Bazaar. This lively market is a perfect place to experience the vibrant trade traditions of Central Asia. You’ll have the chance to see local crafts, fresh produce, and more. After the morning of exploration, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, where you can try authentic Tajik dishes.

In the afternoon, you will have some free time to explore Khujand at your own pace or relax. In the evening, check-in at the hotel, where you will spend the night, reflecting on the day’s discoveries.

Day 2:Khujand – Istaravshan – Tashkent

On your second day, after breakfast, you will head to Istaravshan, a historic city located about 80 km (a 1.5 to 2-hour drive) from Khujand. Istaravshan is known for its impressive architecture and historical significance. Your first stop will be the Hazrat Shah architectural complex, which includes several important religious sites. These include the Hazrat Shah Mausoleum, the resting place of the brother of Kusam ibn Abbas, a revered figure in Islamic history. Also located here are the Khudayar Valami Mausoleum and the Namazgah Mosque, which dates back to the 19th century, reflecting the city’s rich Islamic heritage.

From there, you will visit Mug Teppe, the ruins of an ancient city believed to have been founded by the Persian king Cyrus the Great. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into the past and highlights the city’s significance in ancient history.

After your exploration of Istaravshan, you will return to Khujand for a traditional lunch at a local restaurant. This will give you a chance to relax and savor more of Tajikistan’s delicious cuisine.

In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Tashkent, retracing your route to the Oybek border, where you will go through the necessary customs and passport control. Upon arriving in Uzbekistan, your driver will meet you on the Uzbekistan side and take you back to your hotel or residence in Tashkent. This marks the end of your enriching 2-day Khujand and Istaravshan tour, filled with cultural exploration and historical discoveries.
