Your one-day Kakheti wine adventure begins at 09:00, when your professional guide and driver pick you up directly from your hotel in Tbilisi. Set off on a scenic drive through the Gombori Pass, a beautiful mountainous road offering stunning panoramic views as it leads you into the heart of Kakheti, Georgia’s renowned wine-producing region.

Your first stop is the quaint village of Vardisubani, where you’ll be welcomed by a local family that specializes in crafting qvevri—the large earthenware vessels buried underground and used for fermenting and aging wine. Learn about this ancient winemaking technique, which has earned Georgia a place on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Continue to the city of Telavi, the historic and cultural capital of the Kakheti region. Enjoy a short walking tour through its charming old streets and make a memorable photo stop at the statue of King Erekle II, a revered Georgian monarch known for his reforms and contributions to the region.

Next, head to the esteemed Shumi Winery, where the rich traditions of Georgian viticulture meet modern techniques. Tour their wine museum and production facilities, then savor a traditional Georgian lunch, featuring regional delicacies served alongside a curated tasting of Shumi’s finest wines.

Your final destination is the magnificent Alaverdi Cathedral, a spiritual and architectural masterpiece nestled among vineyards with the dramatic Caucasus Mountains as its backdrop. Dating back to the 11th century, its ancient frescoes and peaceful surroundings provide a serene conclusion to your day.

After soaking in the beauty and history, return to Tbilisi in the evening. Drop-off at your hotel concludes your unforgettable Kakheti wine tour.

I had an unforgettable experience on the one-day Kakheti Wine Tour from Tbilisi. The entire journey through the picturesque Gombori Pass was simply breathtaking. Visiting the traditional qvevri workshop in Vardisubani gave me a deep appreciation for Georgia’s ancient winemaking traditions. Telavi’s charming streets and the monument to Erekle II added a wonderful historical touch. The highlight was definitely the Shumi Winery, where the wine tasting and traditional lunch were absolutely delightful. Ending the tour at Alaverdi Cathedral with its stunning frescoes was a perfect way to connect with Georgian culture.

A huge thanks to our guide, Niko, whose passion for Georgia’s history and culture made the tour even more enriching. His insightful stories and warm hospitality truly brought the region to life. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Georgia’s rich heritage and taste its incredible wines!
