Begin your exploration in Bishkek, where you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant heart of the capital. Stroll through Oak Park, admire the iconic Ala-Too Square, and visit the historic Osh Bazaar. Your adventure continues with a trip to Ala-Archa National Park, where stunning alpine landscapes await, providing the perfect backdrop for hiking and outdoor activities.

Next, travel to the majestic Son-Kul Lake, a serene gem nestled at an elevation of 3,016 meters. Experience the unique nomadic culture as you interact with local shepherds, enjoy traditional meals, and even try kymyz, the beloved fermented mare’s milk. Sleeping in a yurt under a star-filled sky will be a highlight of your stay.

As you make your way to Issyk-Kul Lake, you’ll stop to marvel at ancient petroglyphs that tell stories of the past. The turquoise waters of Issyk-Kul, one of the largest lakes in the world, offer opportunities for relaxation and exploration along its picturesque shores. Before returning to Bishkek, visit the historical Burana Tower, a remnant of the ancient city of Balasagyn.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Bishkek

Welcome to Kyrgyzstan! After your arrival at the airport, you’ll be transferred to the heart of Bishkek for hotel check-in (available from 2:00 PM). After some relaxation, we’ll embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the city. Discover the charm of Bishkek as we visit Oak Park, the central Ala-Too Square, the impressive Philharmonic Hall, the striking Manas Statue, and Victory Square. Experience the vibrant local life at the bustling Osh Bazaar, where you’ll get a taste of everyday Kyrgyz culture. Following a delicious lunch, we head to the breathtaking Ala-Archa National Park, located just 40 km from the city. This alpine gorge is a paradise for nature lovers, offering panoramic views of the fast-flowing Ala-Archa River, snow-capped peaks, fir-covered slopes, and lush alpine meadows blanketed with flowers. We’ll hike from the Alpine camp (2200 m) to the picturesque Ak-Sai Waterfall, located 2,700 meters above sea level, before returning to Bishkek for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2Bishkek to Son-Kul Lake (360 km)

After breakfast, we will set off for Son-Kul Lake, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most stunning natural treasures, located at an impressive altitude of 3,016 meters. Our journey includes a stop for lunch in Kochkor village, where you can experience the local culture. Upon arrival at Son-Kul Lake, witness the beauty of this remote mountain oasis, dotted with yurts and grazing livestock during the summer months. Here, you will be warmly welcomed by shepherds who will offer you kymyz, a traditional drink made from fermented mare’s milk, alongside homemade bread and dairy products. Spend the night in a yurt, enjoying the serene mountain atmosphere.

Day 3Son-Kul to Issyk-Kul Lake (300 km)

Today, we will travel to Issyk-Kul Lake along the northern shoreline. On our way, we will visit the open-air petroglyph gallery in Cholpon-Ata, where ancient rock carvings dating back to 500 BC to 100 AD depict various animals and hunting scenes. You will also have the opportunity to explore the local lore museum to learn about the region’s history and culture. Afterward, we will check in to our hotel on the northern shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, where you can unwind and enjoy the stunning views.

Day 4:Issyk-Kul to Bishkek (280 km)

Enjoy a leisurely morning at Issyk-Kul Lake, taking time for a refreshing swim or a peaceful walk along the beach until 11 AM. Afterward, we will transfer back to Bishkek. Along the way, we will make a stop to visit the Burana Tower, an ancient minaret that dates back to the XI-XIII centuries, remnants of the historical city of Balasagyn. In the evening, savor a farewell dinner as we reminisce about our journey and experiences. Overnight accommodation will be provided in Bishkek.

Day 5:Departure from Bishkek

On the final day of your expedition, you will enjoy breakfast before being transferred to the airport for your departure. This marks the end of the Kyrgyzstan Highlights: Lakes Expedition, but the memories and experiences will last a lifetime.

Our 5-day «Kyrgyzstan Highlights: Lakes Expedition» was just great! From the moment we arrived in Bishkek, the blend of modernity and tradition captured our hearts. The highlight for me was the hike in Ala-Archa National Park, where the breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks left us in awe. Staying in a yurt at Son-Kul was a unique experience; we felt truly immersed in the nomadic culture, especially while enjoying delicious kymyz. The ancient petroglyphs at Cholpon-Ata were fascinating, connecting us with Kyrgyzstan’s rich history. We also had plenty of time to relax by the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, making it a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Our guide was knowledgeable and made the entire trip seamless. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of Kyrgyzstan!
