Route in brief:

Nukus – Muynak – Khojeli – Nukus

Embark on a captivating one-day tour to Muynak, a town that was once a thriving port on the shores of the Aral Sea, now transformed into a desert landscape. This 400+ km journey takes you through stunning landscapes and deep into the history of the region. Starting from the city of Nukus, your adventure will take you through the heart of Khodjeli and Kungrad, cities that once flourished as key trade points along the Great Silk Road.

By noon, you’ll arrive in Muynak, where you’ll witness the «Ship Graveyard»—a hauntingly beautiful site of abandoned ships stranded in the vast, dry land where the Aral Sea used to be. Explore the Muynak Museum and immerse yourself in a short documentary that brings the town’s prosperous past back to life.

Lunch is a cultural experience in a local family guesthouse, where traditional dishes are served with warm hospitality, offering a taste of the local lifestyle. Afterward, the tour heads to Khodjeli, where you’ll visit the Mizdakhan architectural complex, dating back to the 14th century, and the ancient ruins of Gaur-Kala, which date from the 6th century BC, steeped in Zoroastrian history.

By 6 PM, you’ll return to Nukus, your heart full of memories from this unforgettable journey through time, culture, and nature. Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to witness the Aral Sea’s haunting beauty and rich history.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Muynak & Aral Sea tour with Shahina Travel! The day was packed with historical landmarks and beautiful, desolate landscapes. Muynak, once a busy port city, now feels like a ghost town, and visiting the ship graveyard really hit home how dramatically the sea has receded. The museum’s documentary was fascinating, and the lunch at a local guesthouse was one of the best meals I had during my travels. Our guide was exceptional, making sure we didn’t miss any significant historical details, and the stop in Khodjely to explore the ancient sites was perfect. Shahina Travel made this tour smooth and enriching—highly recommend it!

The Muynak & Aral Sea tour was an unforgettable journey! Shahina Travel made every detail perfect, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and significance of the area. We started with the eerie Muynak Ship Graveyard, where the abandoned ships seemed to tell their own story of a lost sea. The museum was insightful, and the local documentary brought the town’s past back to life. The lunch at a local guesthouse was a highlight—delicious food and warm hospitality. The ruins of the ancient Mizdakhan complex were fascinating, and it was amazing to see such well-preserved historical sites. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history and off-the-beaten-path adventures!

I had an amazing experience on the Muynak & Aral Sea tour! The route from Nukus to Muynak was beautiful, and our guide shared fascinating facts about the historical significance of the area. The ship graveyard in Muynak was an incredible sight—seeing those rusty ships stuck in the sand really makes you reflect on how much the landscape has changed. The local museum provided an immersive look into the past of this once-thriving port town. The ruins of the Mizdakhan complex were also impressive. The lunch at a family guesthouse gave us a taste of local hospitality. Thanks to Shahina Travel for organizing such a memorable trip!
