Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Bishkek – Journey to Toktogul

Upon your arrival at the airport, our manager will warmly welcome you and assist you in getting your vehicle. From there, you will begin your scenic journey to the town of Toktogul, which is located near Kyrgyzstan’s largest reservoir, sharing the same name. This drive takes you through the southern part of the country, offering breathtaking landscapes of towering mountains and winding gorges. A highlight of today’s route is the majestic Too-Ashuu Pass, which stands at an altitude of over 3,000 meters. Renowned as one of the most picturesque roads in Kyrgyzstan, the pass provides incredible panoramic views. Along the way, we will stop at various points for you to capture these stunning vistas and create lasting memories. Upon arrival in Toktogul, enjoy a hearty dinner and settle in for a comfortable overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 2Toktogul to Osh – Exploring the Uzgen Tower

After breakfast, your adventure continues with a drive to Osh, Kyrgyzstan’s second-largest city. This segment of the trip takes about six hours and follows a mountainous road with awe-inspiring views throughout. En route, we’ll stop at Djalal-Abad, a town famous for its historical landmark, the Uzgen Tower. Constructed during the 11th century by the Karakhanid dynasty, this ancient minaret is surrounded by mausoleums that once served as burial sites for prominent leaders. As you explore the area, you’ll be captivated by its historical charm and stunning architectural details. Throughout the journey, we’ll make several stops for you to photograph the breathtaking mountain scenery, ensuring this day remains unforgettable. Upon arrival in Osh, you’ll check into a hotel for a relaxing evening and overnight stay.

Day 3Osh to Khujand via Batken and Istaravshan

Today, you’ll cross the Tajik border via Batken town as you head toward Khujand, the second-largest city in Tajikistan. Along the way, we will stop in Istaravshan, known for its rich cultural heritage and notable mosques. Khujand, situated on the banks of the Syr Darya River at the entrance to the Fergana Valley, boasts a population of approximately 149,000 residents and serves as the capital of the Sughd province. Upon arrival in Khujand, you’ll visit the city’s Cultural Palace, a significant historical site where Tajikistan’s first president was inaugurated. Later, explore the Central Mosque, a magnificent structure located at the heart of the city. After a day filled with exploration, you’ll enjoy a comfortable stay at a local hotel.

Day 4:Khujand to Iskanderkul Lake – Discovering the Fann Mountains

This day takes you to one of Tajikistan’s most renowned natural wonders – the high-altitude Iskanderkul Lake, nestled at 2,255 meters above sea level in the majestic Fann Mountains. Known as one of Central Asia’s most beautiful destinations, this serene lake offers a tranquil escape surrounded by pristine nature. Upon arrival, you’ll have the chance to stroll along the lake’s peaceful shores and enjoy its stunning views. We’ll also take a short 40-minute hike to visit a nearby waterfall, a must-see attraction in the area. Tajikistan is famed for its abundant water resources, ranking second among CIS countries with over 1,000 rivers, 2,000 lakes, and 8,000 glaciers. After a day of exploration, dinner will be served at 7 p.m., followed by a restful overnight stay in a cozy guesthouse.

Day 5:Iskanderkul to Dushanbe – Scenic Drive and City Exploration

Begin the day with a picturesque drive to Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, traveling via the dramatic Anzob Pass at an altitude of 3,372 meters and passing through the impressive Isticlol Tunnel. The route winds through stunning mountain landscapes, offering numerous opportunities to pause for photographs and enjoy the views.

The afternoon will be dedicated to a guided city tour of Dushanbe. Your exploration starts at Rudaki Park, followed by visits to landmarks such as the National Library, the White House, the National State Seal, and the House of Parliament. You’ll also admire the Jomi Theatre’s architecture. Next, stroll through the National Park, where you can photograph the Ministry of Internal Affairs and marvel at the world’s tallest flagpole, standing 165 meters high, bearing a 30-meter-wide and 60-meter-long flag. Afterward, visit the Central Museum for an insightful look at Tajikistan’s history and culture.

The tour continues at the Gurminj Museum, showcasing traditional musical instruments. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant, allowing you to enjoy authentic Tajik cuisine. End the day with an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.

Day 6:Dushanbe to Kalai Khum – Along the Tajik Sea and Pamir Mountains

Your journey today takes you to the village of Kalai Khum, starting with a stop at the Norak Reservoir, often referred to as the “Tajik Sea.” As you ascend the Shuraba Pass, at 2,267 meters above sea level, you’ll enter the magnificent Pamir Mountain region. This area, with its rugged peaks and striking natural beauty, has captivated explorers like Marco Polo and Mirza Muhammad Haidar for centuries.

The route follows the Pyanj River, which forms the natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The Pamirs, often described as an “ocean of white and blue mountains,” offer views of unparalleled beauty. By evening, you’ll arrive at Kalai Khum, where you’ll experience a homestay, providing an authentic glimpse into the daily lives of the local people.

Day 7:Kalai Khum to Khorog – Discovering the Heart of the Pamirs

Start your day with a drive to Khorog, one of the world’s smallest cities, nestled among towering mountains. The town lies at the confluence of the Shokhdara, Ghund, and Pyanj rivers, creating a serene and picturesque setting. Along the way, you’ll have the unique opportunity to meet the Pamiri people, whose distinct physical features, including fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, set them apart from other Tajik groups.

The Pamirs, known as the second-highest inhabited mountain range after the Himalayas, have shaped the local culture and traditions, creating a lifestyle unique to the region. Dinner will be enjoyed at a local restaurant, followed by an overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 8:Khorog to Yamg – Along the Tajik-Afghan Border

Today’s journey follows the winding road along the Tajik-Afghan border, leading to the picturesque village of Yamg. The Pamir Mountains, often referred to as the “Roof of the World,” boast breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, sprawling valleys, and arid deserts. The region, located at elevations ranging from 3,500 to 4,200 meters above sea level, offers a profound sense of remoteness and grandeur.

Isolated mountain communities have preserved their ancient cultural and linguistic traditions, creating a mosaic of distinct dialects and customs. You’ll end the day in Yamg with dinner and an overnight stay in a homestay, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local way of life.

Day 9:Yamg to Yashil Kul and Bulunkul Lakes – Natural Wonders of the Pamirs

Today, you’ll explore the stunning lakes of Yashil Kul and Bulunkul, situated at an altitude of 3,700 meters in the Murghab district. Known as the “Blue Lakes,” Bulunkul’s waters exhibit a captivating interplay of violet and dark blue under sunlight. These tranquil lakes are home to abundant fish species and surrounded by diverse wildlife, including yaks – domesticated animals prized for their milk, meat, and use as pack animals.

Your route takes you over the Khargush Pass, at an impressive 4,344 meters, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay in a homestay near the lakes, providing a serene retreat amid the natural beauty of the Pamirs.

Day 10:Bulunkul to Murghab – Exploring the Roof of the World

The journey today takes you deeper into the heart of the Pamirs as you head to Murghab, often described as the quintessential Pamir experience. Locals say, “To visit the Pamirs without seeing Murghab is like not visiting the Pamirs at all.” On your way, you’ll ascend the Naizatash Pass at 4,137 meters, where the stark, breathtaking landscapes begin to evoke comparisons to the surface of the Moon.

Murghab, with its flat, desolate terrain framed by towering peaks exceeding 6,000 meters, offers an unforgettable and surreal experience. The harsh climate of Murghab is characterized by dry air, short summers, and severe, almost snowless winters, adding to its Arctic-like charm. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be in a guesthouse, providing a cozy retreat amid the austere beauty of the region.

Day 11:Murghab to Sary Tash – Crossing into Kyrgyzstan

Your adventure continues as you drive along the iconic Pamir Tract to Sary Tash, with a stop at the stunning Karakul Lake, located at an altitude of 3,815 meters. Known as the “Black Lake,” Karakul is the highest large mountain lake in the world outside of Tibet and Titicaca. It is nestled in a meteorite crater and surrounded by a rich mosaic of wet meadows, bogs, and unique ecosystems teeming with flora and fauna.

The journey includes a drive over the Ak Baital Pass, the highest point on the Pamir Highway at 4,655 meters. As you cross the Kyrgyz border, the landscapes begin to transform, offering a preview of the natural beauty Kyrgyzstan is known for. Dinner and an overnight stay will be in a homestay in Sary Tash, where you’ll experience authentic local hospitality.

Day 12:Sary Tash to Osh – Majestic Mountain Passes

Begin the day with a scenic drive from the high-altitude village of Sary Tash to the historic city of Osh. The road winds through awe-inspiring mountain passes, including the Taldyk Pass at 3,615 meters. The panoramic views of rugged peaks and lush valleys along the way are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Upon reaching Osh, you’ll visit the iconic Suleiman Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a sacred pilgrimage spot for Muslims. According to legend, the biblical prophet Solomon (Suleiman in the Quran) was buried at its base. After exploring this spiritual landmark, enjoy an evening walk around the city. Overnight accommodation will be in a hotel.

Day 13:Osh to Bishkek – Return Through Kyrgyz Landscapes

Today’s drive takes you back to Bishkek, retracing the route through Kyrgyzstan’s breathtaking mountain landscapes and verdant gorges. Along the way, you may encounter nomadic families living in the region, offering a glimpse into their traditional way of life. The drive is filled with incredible views and opportunities to reflect on the natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan.

Once in Bishkek, you’ll settle into a comfortable hotel for your last night in Central Asia.

Day 14:Departure from Bishkek

In the morning, your journey concludes with a transfer to the airport for your flight home. As you depart, carry with you memories of the dramatic landscapes, diverse cultures, and warm hospitality of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Safe travels!
