Discover Bostanlyk: The Jewel of Tashkent's Tourism

Bostanlyk District stands as the most captivating tourist destination in the Tashkent region. This expansive area is located in the northeastern part of Tashkent Province, ranging from 50 to 200 kilometers from Uzbekistan’s capital.

Among the most popular tourist attractions in Bostanlyk are the stunning Charvak Reservoir, the majestic Chimgan Mountains, and the renowned ski resorts of Amirsoy and Beldersay. This district is enveloped by towering mountains, including the Ugam, Pskem, and Chatkal ranges of the Southwestern Tian Shan, with peaks soaring over 4,300 meters. Notable summits include the towering Adylunga Peak (4,301 m), Beshter Peak (4,299 m), Big Chimgan (3,309 m), Amir Temur Peak (3,762 m), and Tavalgan Peak (3,854 m), among many others.

Three major rivers flow through the district: the Pskem, with its main tributaries—Oygaining, Maidanatal, and Charalma; and the Koksu and Chatkal rivers, along with their tributaries Akbulak, Terekli, and Karaarcha. All these rivers converge into the Charvak Reservoir, whose impressive dam was constructed in 1970. Today, it is a favored retreat for residents of Tashkent and tourists alike, who flock to the numerous hotels situated around the reservoir. The exotic villages of Brichmulla, Yakkatut, Sijjak, and Nanay, located around the reservoir, are also well-known.

Bostanlyk District is home to countless small rivers adorned with picturesque waterfalls, which are particularly popular among tourists. Some of these include Tavaksay, Kyzylsu, Akhtash, Naavalysay, Aksarsay, Kulasya, Paltau, Chukuraksu, Ispay, and many more.

Adventurers are drawn to the mysterious, inaccessible highland plateau of Pulatkhan, surrounded on all sides by sheer rocky cliffs. Many travelers have reported sightings of UFOs above the plateau, which also features a cave plunging 500 meters deep, with internal wells reaching depths of up to 80 meters.

For enthusiasts of karst caves, the district offers intriguing sites like the Whispering Cave and the Hydroingeo Cave (known as the “Two-Eyed Cave”) on the Giza Plateau, as well as the smaller Paltau Cave (special permits are required for access to border zones).

In winter, Bostanlyk transforms into a paradise for winter sports lovers, boasting the state-of-the-art Amirsoy ski resort equipped with the latest facilities for skiing and snowboarding rentals, along with a four-star hotel. Freeride enthusiasts and off-piste skiers flock to the Beldersay resort on Mount Kumbel.

Bostanlyk District is also recognized as one of the premier locations in the world for heliskiing and heliboarding—extreme skiing adventures made accessible by helicopter.

The region is extraordinarily rich in lakes, the most famous being the jade-hued Urunjach Lake, which is full from April to July and captivates thousands of tourists with its magical color. The wild beauty of the Badak Lakes, which are within a day’s reach, and the more remote Ichnachkul Lake, requiring a 3-4 day trek to access, along with Termetash, Karakanysh, Shavarkul, and numerous glacial lakes at elevations above 3,000 meters, astound visitors.

Bostanlyk District is dotted with eternal glaciers, including Paktakor, Beshter, Tekesh, Ozerny Glacier, and Barkrak Glacier, among others. These glaciers feature vast crevasses, necessitating guided tours and special equipment for safe exploration.

The district is immensely popular among outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for trekking and hiking, climbing and rock climbing, cycling, paragliding, and river rafting on rafts and kayaks. Water skiing and boating on the Charvak Reservoir are also popular activities, alongside a via ferrata in Nanay and a zip line in Bulaksu. Various competitions, both national and international, are frequently held in Bostanlyk.

The area is home to numerous sanatoria, rest houses, tourist complexes, and boarding houses, as well as seasonal sports camps that teach rock climbing, basic mountaineering skills, and survival techniques in mountainous conditions.
