Dolon restaurant in the old part of Bukhara is a decent spot with a nice location.

Really liked Amulet restaurant – it’s a nice place to sit, and the cool mist system feels super refreshing. The food was delicious too.

Before our trip, we carefully read reviews about the three cities we visited – Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara. I’ll just share some final thoughts here about Bukhara.

Many people recommended the restaurants Joy and Zolotaya Bukhara (Golden Bukhara). With the same average bill, Joy was a level above in every way – portion sizes, taste, service, and atmosphere.

Zolotaya Bukhara was actually the last restaurant we visited on our trip and, unfortunately, one of the worst. Portions were small, the food was okay, but nothing worth praising – and we were a group of four, ordering different dishes on purpose to try more. It was expensive too.

But Joy – that’s a place we’d definitely go back to. Delicious. Big portions. Outstanding staff.

@terus Thanks! I’ve noted Joy.
What would you recommend in Samarkand?

What would you recommend in Samarkand?

In Samarkand, we confirmed that Karimbek, which a lot of people recommend, is really good!
The restaurant Samarkand is run by the same family – two brothers. They even have some of the same dishes on their menus.

Samarkand is more grand and fancy – the dining halls are beautiful – but the service isn’t great. Lots of dishes weren’t available, staff were rushing around, it felt a bit chaotic.

No such problems at Karimbek.
We ordered the same salad at both places, and Karimbek made it better and gave more meat!

Tour groups are brought to Karimbek for lunch, and they serve huge skewers of kebab and lula under traditional music – it looks amazing!

Here’s the location:

Hi everyone. Can anyone recommend a place in Bukhara (a teahouse, pastry shop, or restaurant) where I can have tea and try a variety of Eastern sweets (halva, baklava, etc.)?

Most restaurants have desserts, but usually just one or two – I’m looking for a proper assortment of different kinds.
Thanks!

You need to go to Varnet 😁 – they’ve got all kinds of sweets there, even Turkish ones.

I read about Varnet – is that the greenhouse in Bukhara? Or something else?

Yeah, you could say it’s a greenhouse – with exotic plants and all that. There’s also a café on the grounds with pastries and other goodies, mostly Turkish.

It’s outside the city, so you’ll need to drive out. Try searching Varnet greenhouse Bukhara.
They have a Telegram page with lots of videos from the greenhouse:

And also, where can I find really good local plov?

The Plov – hands down the tastiest Bukhara plov, the best we tried anywhere (and we had plov in Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara).

We went during the day – the plov was fresh, and you could walk right up to the cauldrons and watch through the glass as they cooked and served it.

@bhooma That’s Chasmai-Mirob Restaurant.
Reviews say the food isn’t good and they tend to overcharge – the only plus is the nice view.

Thanks to everyone who recomended The Plov restaurant. Was there and really enjoyed it. Lot of people but they serve quickly. So definitely recommended. Very tasty.

My local friends recommended this restaurant - Chorbakr, it is slightly outside Buhara but they claim that there they cook the tastiest meat in the city. I checked the ratings and it seems they are right.
