Hello everyone.
Today I made it to the Sarmishsay Gorge. An amazing place—it will definitely rank among my top three most memorable spots in Uzbekistan.
It is located 45 kilometers from Navoi and is known for its tens of thousands of petroglyphs. A whole art gallery of the Bronze and Stone Ages. The oldest carvings date back 9,000 years, according to scientists )
Hunting scenes, dances, rituals, animals, and even what look like aliens—everything can be found in these drawings. The place itself is very picturesque: rocks, sunshine, and frogs croaking throughout the entire gorge )
Even the taxi driver who brought me there got interested and ended up keeping me company for a few hours )
He said he was amazed by what he saw.
This place is an absolute must-visit 😉
Did you take a taxi from Bukhara?
No, from Navoi.
Could you please tell me how much the taxi from Navoi to the gorge cost?
120,000 soum for a Yandex Comfort ride, but I always add a bit extra—when they realize it’s a one- or two-hour drive, they tend to get a bit gloomy behind the wheel ))
I paid 300,000 for the round trip, and we spent about three hours walking around there.
Thank you. I’m also planning to go to Navoi from Bukhara, but I wanted to visit Nurata and its fortress. Now you’ve really intrigued me ))
Tell me, if you go to the gorge and let the taxi driver leave, is it possible to get back later? Is there any public transport running from there?
I was planning to hitch a ride—cars do pass along the road—but I managed to intrigue my driver ))
There’s no public transport.
Got it, thanks a lot for the information! 😊
