About the Imam Al-Bukhari Mosque:
We got there by bus No. 100—it took about an hour, and around 5 PM the bus was absolutely packed.
Of course, I had seen photos before, but in real life it’s impossible to put into words how magnificent the mosque is! It’s especially beautiful at sunset; around 7:30 PM the lights were switched on, and everyone around let out an audible gasp in unison.
On the way back, the bus driver mentioned that the last bus was supposedly at 8 PM, but we didn’t see either the bus or any people waiting for it. In the end, we left by a Damas minivan, paying 15,000 soum per person, reached the city, and then transferred to another bus. The mosque is simply like something out of a fairy tale!!
Is entry inside free? Or is there no access? Planning to go there from Tashkent.
Entry is free. There are security gates at the entrance—they checked our backpack and asked if we had cigarettes, since smoking is not allowed on the premises.
We also went to Imam Al-Bukhari by bus. The driver told us the last bus back was at 8 PM, but we couldn’t get on because it was too crowded. We tried calling a Yandex taxi—waited about 15 minutes, the app showed the car had arrived, but in reality it wasn’t there. We ordered again, waited for an hour, and barely managed to leave. It seems that after 8 PM it’s quite difficult to get out of there.
Does Imam Al-Bukhari operate on Mondays? Does anyone know what’s open there?
The museum is closed, but the mosque itself and the mausoleum are open. Ladies, bring headscarves—they don’t allow entry with an uncovered head. Shoulders and knees need to be covered as well.
One more tip: go in the evening to catch the illumination—it starts after 7 PM. We left around 5 PM (rush hour🥲), and the journey took about an hour. Yandex Maps shows a stop much earlier, with about a 13-minute walk afterward, but the conductor told us to ride to the final stop. We got off right across from the complex 😊
We managed to see it in daylight, at sunset, and illuminated at night. After that, it’s best to hurry for the last bus—it’s around 7:30 PM. It was waiting by the gates for passengers
Entrance to the memorial is free, the museum costs 250,000 soum for Russians with a guide. We were there yesterday and didn’t regret the money spent. The museum is modern and interesting, but not for everyone. For those who are interested.Posted by: @sammezIs entry inside free?
Yesterday I visited the mausoleum of Imam Al-Bukhari. A very beautiful place! They also opened a new museum there. I went by taxi, about 40 minutes. I was surprised that there were no foreigners or Russians. Apparently the place isn’t really promoted. I couldn’t find it on 2GIS. Walking around the территории is free, the museum entrance for foreigners is 250,000.
They will give you a tour in Russian or English. Maybe there are other languages too, but I didn’t уточняла. Everyone there is accompanied by a guide.
What is the approximate duration of the tour?
Since I was the only Russian, I had a guide just for myself. Uzbeks were going in groups of 20 people. I bought a regular ticket, and when I came up, they were forming groups. No one wanted a tour in Russian, so the guide went just with me.
The tour itself takes about 40 minutes. It depends on how long you spend exploring all the interactive exhibits. For example, those with children ride on a “flying carpet” there.
