This full-day tour is perfect for nature lovers, history buffs, and photographers alike, offering the best of Georgia’s northern highlands in just one day.

Travel along the legendary Georgian Military Highway, where dramatic gorges and towering peaks paint a breathtaking backdrop. Your first stop is the Ananuri Fortress Complex, a remarkable architectural gem set on the shores of the turquoise Jinvali Reservoir. Wander through centuries-old towers and churches as you take in panoramic views of this serene landscape.

Continue your ascent toward the majestic Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) region, pausing to admire surreal mountain views and natural wonders—including the unique confluence of two rivers that flow together without mixing. Take in the sweeping vistas from the Friendship Monument, a Soviet-era viewing platform offering unmatched sights of the Caucasus range.

The highlight of the tour awaits at the mystical Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, perched at 2,170 meters above sea level. From here, gaze upon the legendary Mount Kazbek, an awe-inspiring, snow-capped giant rising to over 5,000 meters. With each stop, you’ll discover more of Georgia’s soul—its dramatic beauty, spiritual heart, and historic depth.

Let this one-day escape transport you to the highlands and leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.

Your adventure begins at 09:00, when our friendly, English-speaking guide and professional driver will greet you at your hotel in Tbilisi. From there, set off on a scenic drive along the historic Georgian Military Highway, a breathtaking route carved through the rugged Caucasus Mountains.

Your first stop is the stunning Jinvali Reservoir, a tranquil, turquoise lake that mirrors the surrounding hills and forests. Pause here for photos and take in the serenity of the landscape. Just ahead lies the impressive Ananuri Fortress Complex, a well-preserved castle and church ensemble that once served as a defensive stronghold for the feudal rulers of Aragvi. Marvel at the medieval architecture, including ornate stone carvings and defensive towers overlooking the lake.

Continue climbing into the mountains toward Kazbegi, stopping en route at the striking confluence of two mountain rivers, which, despite merging, maintain their distinct colors—a curious natural phenomenon. Travel higher still to reach the iconic Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, a colorful mosaic structure perched on the edge of a vast gorge. The panoramic views of snow-dusted peaks and winding valleys are simply unforgettable.

Upon arrival in Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), switch to a 4WD vehicle and ascend to the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, perched dramatically above the valley. From this sacred site at 2,170 meters, marvel at the majestic Mount Kazbek, a dormant volcano and one of the tallest peaks in the Caucasus.

After soaking in the breathtaking views and crisp mountain air, begin your comfortable drive back to Tbilisi. Drop-off at your hotel in the evening.

This day trip from Tbilisi was the best part of my visit to Georgia. Everything was very well timed, and the route itself was so scenic. The contrast of the rivers at the confluence was surprising and beautiful, and the mountains seemed to change color with the light. I especially enjoyed the quiet moment at Gergeti Church — it felt like being on top of the world. No matter your travel style, this tour has something special to offer.

Our guide, Giorgi, made this day trip unforgettable. His love for Georgia shone through in every word, and he made history come alive with passion and humor. The view from the Friendship Monument was something I’ll never forget, and the drive up to Gergeti Church was both thrilling and rewarding. We were lucky to have clear skies, so Mount Kazbek was fully visible — majestic and humbling. It felt like stepping into a storybook. I would take this tour again in a heartbeat.

The tour to Kazbegi was well organized and the scenery was simply unforgettable. I was amazed by the Ananuri fortress — its peaceful location by the lake was like a postcard. The drive through the Caucasus Mountains was beautiful, with stunning viewpoints and photo stops. The Gergeti Church was magical, almost surreal in its location. Although I would have liked a bit more time at each stop, everything was smooth and well-managed. A truly enriching experience!

I absolutely loved this one-day journey to Kazbegi! The landscapes were breathtaking from start to finish — from the serene Jinvali Reservoir to the majestic peak of Mount Kazbek. Our guide, Lasha, was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, sharing so many fascinating stories about Georgian history and local legends. The Gergeti Trinity Church was the highlight — perched high above the valley with snow-covered mountains all around. The trip was well-paced, and the transportation was very comfortable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the best of Georgia’s nature and culture in just one day.
