Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Dushanbe

Upon your arrival in Dushanbe, our driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After some rest, the tour begins with a visit to the National Museum of Antiquities, which houses Tajikistan’s rich cultural history, including the famous Buddha in Nirvana statue. Afterward, stroll through the serene Botanical Garden and experience the lively atmosphere of a local bazaar, where you’ll get a feel for Tajik culture and craftsmanship. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2Dushanbe – Kalai-Khumb (370 km, 8 hours)

Your adventure into the Pamir Mountains begins as you depart Dushanbe and travel to Kalai-Khumb, a small town situated on the Panj River. The scenic route winds through either Tavildara and Khaburabad pass or the Kulyab region. As you venture further from the capital, you’ll notice the transition from urban to rural lifestyles, including more traditional clothing and customs. Despite the remoteness, the hospitality remains warm and welcoming. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3Kalai-Khumb – Khorog (240 km, 6 hours)

Today’s journey continues along the Panj River, which forms part of the natural border with Afghanistan. Your destination is Khorog, a charming town nestled in a mountain valley, and the capital of the autonomous Gorno-Badakhshan region. The road to Khorog offers breathtaking views of the river and surrounding mountains. At 2,000 meters above sea level, Khorog is a picturesque town spread along the banks of the Gunt River, a tributary of the Panj. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4:Khorog – Ishkashim (120 km, 4-5 hours)

In the morning, you’ll visit the famous Garm Chashma hot springs, known for their mineral-rich healing properties. Later, continue your journey to Ishkashim, a small town located at the entrance of the Wakhan Corridor. Along the way, you’ll witness stunning views of the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountain ranges, with peaks that soar above 6,000 meters. Overnight in a local guest house.

Day 5:Ishkashim – Langar (140 km, 6-7 hours)

Today’s adventure takes you deeper into the Wakhan Valley as you head to Langar. Along the way, visit the ancient Kah-Kaha fortress, a former Silk Road stronghold. You will also stop at the Museum of Sufi Muborak-Kadami Vakhani, where you’ll learn about the life of a local scholar, theologian, and traveler. Continue to the village of Vrang, where a Buddhist stupa and ancient rock carvings await. You’ll also visit the ruins of the Yamchun Fortress, an impressive 3rd-century B.C. structure that once protected the Pamir branch of the Silk Road. Overnight in a guest house.

Day 6:Langar – Bulunkul (130 km, 4-5 hours)

Start the day by exploring Langar’s famous petroglyphs, which offer a glimpse into the region’s ancient history. Then, embark on a journey to Yashilkul Lake via the high-altitude Khargush Pass (4,344 meters). The crystal-clear lake is a sight to behold, surrounded by rugged peaks. Overnight in a guest house in Bulunkul village.

Day 7:Bulunkul – Khorog (145 km, 5 hours)

Today, you’ll retrace your steps to Khorog, crossing the Koi-Tezek Pass (4,271 meters) along the way. You’ll have opportunities to take in the stunning views and enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding countryside before arriving in Khorog in the late afternoon. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8:Khorog – Kalai-Khumb (255 km, 6-7 hours)

Spend the morning exploring Khorog’s botanical garden, one of the highest in the world. In the afternoon, begin your journey back to Kalai-Khumb, where you will spend the night.

Day 9:Kalai-Khumb – Dushanbe (280 km, 7-8 hours)

The return to Dushanbe takes you along a scenic route via the Khobu-Robot Pass (3,252 meters). Enjoy the beautiful mountain vistas as you drive through small villages and untouched landscapes. Arrive in Dushanbe and check in to your hotel for a night of rest.

Day 10:Dushanbe – Iskanderkul (160 km, 3-4 hours)

Leave Dushanbe and head toward Iskanderkul Lake, situated in the Fann Mountains. The lake is named after Alexander the Great, who is said to have passed by it on his way to India. The tranquil blue waters, set against towering mountains, make for a peaceful retreat. Overnight in a guest house near the lake.

Day 11:Iskanderkul – Penjikent (160 km, 5-6 hours)

Today’s destination is Penjikent, an ancient city known for its historical significance. After arriving and checking into your hotel, explore the Museum of Rudaki, dedicated to the father of Persian poetry, and visit the ruins of ancient Penjikent. This 5th-century city was a thriving center of Sogdian culture before it was abandoned in the 8th century. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 12:Penjikent – Seven Lakes – Penjikent (160 km, 3 hours)

Embark on a scenic drive to the Seven Lakes, each uniquely colored and situated in the western Fann Mountains. These lakes, varying from turquoise to deep blue, offer a stunning contrast to the surrounding rugged landscape. Enjoy a picnic lunch by Hazorchashma, the final and largest lake, before returning to Penjikent in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13:Penjikent – Artuch Mountain Base (80 km, 2 hours)

Head toward Artuch, located in the heart of the Fann Mountains. The Artuch Mountain Base offers comfortable cottages with modern amenities, including a sauna and billiard hall. Relax and enjoy the stunning mountain scenery. Overnight at the mountain base.

Day 14:Artuch – Dushanbe (230 km, 5-6 hours)

Begin your journey back to Dushanbe, passing through the Istiqlol Tunnel. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free for leisure or exploring the city on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 15: Dushanbe – Departure

On your final day, enjoy some free time before transferring to Dushanbe International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of this extraordinary Pamir Highway adventure.

Traveling along the Pamir Highway was an incredible journey filled with stunning landscapes and rich history. The drive to Khorog along the Panj River was absolutely breathtaking, with views of Afghanistan just across the water. Each stop had something unique to offer, from the ancient petroglyphs at Langar to the serene hot springs at Garm Chashma. Our guide was friendly and well-informed, which made the trip even more enjoyable. It’s the perfect tour for anyone who loves adventure and nature!

The Pamir Highway Tour was beyond amazing! From the rugged landscapes to the breathtaking mountain views, every moment was an adventure. Driving through the high-altitude passes, especially Khargush Pass, was an exhilarating experience. The Pamir Highway Tour was an epic adventure! Every part of the journey, from Dushanbe to Khorog, felt like stepping into a new world. The high mountain passes, particularly Khaburabad, offered some of the most striking views I’ve ever seen. I enjoyed learning about the history of the region, especially during our visit to the ruins of the Yamchun Fortress. Our accommodation was comfortable, and the local food was delicious. The Pamirs are truly a hidden gem, and this tour allowed me to experience them fully!

I recently completed the Pamir Highway Tour, and it was the adventure of a lifetime. From the bustling bazaar in Dushanbe to the remote beauty of Bulunkul, every day brought something new and exciting. The tour was well-organized, and the guides were excellent. The rugged, untouched beauty of the Pamirs was mesmerizing. One of the most memorable experiences was standing on the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, looking across the river. This tour gave me a deep appreciation for Tajikistan’s history and natural wonders.

This 15-day Pamir Highway journey was unforgettable! The scenery along the way was stunning, especially the turquoise Yashilkul Lake and the towering Pamir Mountains. Our guide was fantastic, providing detailed explanations of the historical sites, such as the Museum of Sufi Muborak-Kadami Vakhani. The guesthouses we stayed in were cozy and allowed us to experience Tajik culture first-hand. I particularly loved the day spent by the lakes in the Fan Mountains. This tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
