This immersive tour invites you to explore the pink-stone charm of Yerevan, marvel at the Hellenistic elegance of Garni Temple, and feel the spiritual power of Etchmiadzin and Geghard Monasteries. Gaze upon Mount Ararat from the legendary Khor Virap, taste world-renowned wines in Areni, and stand at the shores of the majestic Lake Sevan. From UNESCO-listed monasteries like Haghpat and Sanahin to the alpine tranquility of Dilijan and the medieval splendor of Amberd Fortress, every stop reveals Armenia’s rich soul. Ideal for culture lovers and curious explorers, this weeklong experience weaves together heritage, hospitality, and the natural wonders of the Caucasus into one extraordinary adventure.
Upon arrival at Yerevan International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your driver and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the capital. After checking in around noon and having some time to refresh, your guided exploration of Yerevan will begin. Known as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, Yerevan is often called the “Pink City” due to the rosy hue of its unique volcanic stone architecture. Your first stop is the Armenian Genocide Memorial and Museum on Tsitsernakaberd Hill, a solemn and powerful tribute to the victims of the 1915 tragedy. From there, visit the city’s most iconic modern landmark—the grand Cascade Monument. This massive 572-step stairway connects the downtown area with the Monument District and offers panoramic views over the city and majestic Mount Ararat. You’ll then take a pleasant stroll through the city center, passing sites like the Opera House, Northern Avenue, Republic Square, and the elegant Abovyan Street. Conclude your day with a welcome dinner at a traditional Armenian restaurant. Overnight in Yerevan.
After breakfast, depart Yerevan for a day rich in history, nature, and spiritual heritage. Your first destination is the village of Garni, home to the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia. Dating back to the 1st century, the Greco-Roman-style Temple of Garni stands as a rare witness to pre-Christian Armenia. From here, descend into the Garni Gorge to view the breathtaking “Symphony of Stones,” a natural wonder composed of basalt columns formed by ancient lava flows. Continue to Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site partially carved into the surrounding cliffs. This 4th-century marvel was founded by Gregory the Illuminator and is closely tied to the Holy Lance (Geghard), believed to have pierced Christ’s side. In the afternoon, drive to Etchmiadzin*, regarded as the spiritual heart of Armenia and considered the first Christian cathedral in the world. You’ll visit the Cathedral and the adjacent museum of sacred Christian relics. Return to Yerevan for overnight.
*Note: Cathedral is currently under restoration; visit is from outside.
Begin your day with a journey to the legendary Khor Virap Monastery, dramatically set against the backdrop of snow-capped Mount Ararat. This spiritual site is where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a deep pit for over a decade. His eventual release marked the turning point that led Armenia to become the first country to adopt Christianity in 301 AD. From here, continue through the scenic Arpa River Gorge to the Noravank Monastery, beautifully perched among towering red cliffs. Its elegant 13th-century architecture is a striking contrast to the rugged natural surroundings. Next, head to Areni village, known for producing Armenia’s finest wines. Explore the Areni-1 cave complex, where archaeologists uncovered the world’s oldest leather shoe. Enjoy a wine tasting session at a local winery before returning to Yerevan for an overnight stay.
Today’s adventure begins with a scenic drive to Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world. Known as the “Jewel of Armenia,” its turquoise waters are framed by a patchwork of alpine meadows and mountain peaks. Visit Sevanavank Monastery, set on a peninsula overlooking the lake. Founded in the 9th century, its two black tuff churches—Surb Arakelots and Surb Karapet—are surrounded by intricately carved khachkars. Continue through lush landscapes toward the dense forests of Tavush Province to reach Haghartsin Monastery, a 12th-century complex featuring several churches, chapels, and a unique refectory with acoustics designed for communal chanting. Close by is Goshavank Monastery, once an important medieval university and home to some of Armenia’s finest khachkars. Immerse yourself in village life and monastic history before heading to the resort town of Dilijan for overnight.
After breakfast, travel through the northern Lori Province, known for its lush valleys and historical treasures. Visit two of Armenia’s UNESCO-listed masterpieces: the Sanahin and Haghpat Monasteries. Built between the 10th and 13th centuries, these complexes served as major centers of education, calligraphy, and religious thought. Sanahin is renowned for its school of illuminators, while Haghpat impresses with its harmonious architectural composition and hillside location overlooking the Debed River Gorge. After this deep dive into Armenia’s ecclesiastical legacy, continue to Gyumri—the nation’s second-largest city. Situated on the Shirak Plateau, Gyumri is known for its historic neighborhoods, traditional black-and-red tuff architecture, and vibrant artistic spirit. Overnight in Gyumri.
In the morning, enjoy a walking tour through Gyumri’s old quarters, where cobblestone streets and 19th-century mansions tell the story of a city once known as Alexandropol. Then drive south toward Mount Aragats, Armenia’s highest peak, to visit Amberd Fortress. Perched at 2,300 meters above sea level, this 7th-century fortification lives up to its name—“Fortress in the Clouds.” The complex includes a church, castle walls, and watchtowers, offering a glimpse into medieval Armenian defense. Later, stop in Oshakan village, the final resting place of Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of the Armenian alphabet. His tomb lies beneath the Saint Mesrop Mashtots Church, built in the 19th century to honor his immense cultural contribution. Return to Yerevan in the evening for a final overnight stay.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and take some time to reflect on your memorable Armenian journey. Check out by noon, followed by a transfer to Yerevan International Airport for your onward flight. End of the tour.
