
Uzbekistan has completed a large-scale restoration and reconstruction of the Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex near Samarkand — one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Muslim world and a place of immense spiritual and scholarly significance.
The comprehensive renewal of the complex was initiated in 2019 on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. According to official statements, the project was designed to reflect the exceptional spiritual authority and the vast scientific legacy of Imam al-Bukhari, the eminent scholar whose work occupies a unique place in Islamic civilization.
As part of the project, the complex was rebuilt almost entirely, with its territory expanded to 44 hectares, transforming it into a monumental religious, cultural, and educational center. Today, the ensemble includes:
