Chukurak Lake, the lowest of three lakes nestled within the Chukurak Gorge, is a hidden gem of the Fann Mountains. Located just above the mouth of a narrow gorge that seals the northern exit, this lake is a marvel of natural beauty. At the base of towering rocky bastions, beneath slopes densely covered in dark green juniper (archa) forests, lies an elongated lake with waters that shift in color—greenish by day and a deep blue by evening.
This unique lake is actually a pair of twin lakes. Water from the larger, upper lake spills over into the smaller, lower lake, creating a stunning natural cascade. However, as summer draws to a close, the water inflow decreases dramatically. The upper lake becomes significantly shallower, while the smaller lake often dries up completely. The streams that feed these lakes, flowing from the snowfields of three adjacent gorges, gradually cease as the snowmelt dwindles.
The river that emerges from Chukurak Lake also undergoes a transformation. Initially robust, its flow weakens as the season progresses until it eventually vanishes entirely into the rocky debris just below the lake.
