Complying with the Khan’s orders, the best baker of Samarkand was summoned to Bukhara. Despite his expertise, the bread he produced was markedly different from the cherished Samarkand loaves. In a bid to solve the mystery, every conceivable ingredient was transported from Samarkand to Bukhara, including the tandyr oven, flour, and water. Yet, the bread remained distinct.

It was then that the baker posited a theory that would become legendary: «Perhaps it is the air of Samarkand that is the secret ingredient.» The air, imbued with the essence of the city, was intangible and could not be captured or transported. Recognizing the futility of his efforts, the Khan permitted the baker to return home.

To this day, the tradition endures. No traveler departs from Samarkand without the famed bread, which retains its softness over time. The bread of Samarkand is a reminder that some things cannot be replicated or replaced.
