Kyrgyzstan boasts some of the highest peaks in the former Soviet Union, including Khan Tengri, Pobeda, and Lenin (Ibn Sina) Peaks. For those seeking quieter, lesser-known escapes, Kyrgyzstan has plenty to offer. Spend a day at a village farm in Tepke in the Issyk-Kul Region, or encounter camels, yaks, and eagles near traditional yurt camps. Feel the serenity of Son-Kul Lake, one of Kyrgyzstan’s highest alpine lakes, or marvel at the mirror-like waters of Toktogul Reservoir, a manmade dam so pristine it seems almost unreal.
