Your day begins as our friendly guide and experienced driver meet you at your hotel in Tbilisi for a full-day journey through the heart of Georgia’s culture and history. We’ll begin our tour with a visit to the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi (Sameba), one of the tallest Orthodox churches in the world and a symbol of the modern Georgian spirit.
Next, we continue to Metekhi Church, dramatically perched above the Mtkvari River, near the equestrian statue of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi. From here, take a scenic cable car ride up to the ancient Narikala Fortress, where panoramic views of the entire city and its surroundings will leave you breathless.
Descending by foot, we’ll pass the Sulphur Bath District, home to the iconic domed bathhouses that Tbilisi is famous for. Just beyond lies the city’s only mosque, reflecting Tbilisi’s multicultural character. Strolling through the narrow cobblestone streets of the Sharden neighborhood, you’ll find cozy cafés, art galleries, wine bars, and charming boutiques. Along the way, visit the Sioni Cathedral and Anchiskhati Basilica, two of Tbilisi’s oldest and most revered churches, before stopping at the whimsical Rezo Gabriadze Clock Tower, a beloved landmark near the Puppet Theatre.
We will pause for a delicious lunch at a traditional Georgian restaurant, where you’ll experience the country’s world-renowned hospitality and flavors.
After lunch, we’ll drive approximately 20 kilometers to Mtskheta, one of Georgia’s oldest and holiest towns, known as the cradle of Georgian Christianity. Our first stop is the Jvari Monastery, an early medieval architectural gem set high on a hilltop. From here, enjoy stunning views of the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari Rivers, a scene often featured in Georgian postcards.
We then descend into the heart of Mtskheta to explore the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, Georgia’s spiritual centerpiece. This majestic cathedral is revered as the resting place of Christ’s robe and is a masterpiece of Georgian religious architecture.
After soaking in the sacred atmosphere and taking time to browse local artisan shops, we return to Tbilisi in the early evening. Drop-off at your hotel or designated location concludes your enriching Tbilisi & Mtskheta Day Tour.
