Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Tbilisi – Discovering the Heart of Georgia

Upon your arrival at Tbilisi International Airport, you will be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel. Official check-in begins at noon, allowing you some time to refresh and relax after your journey.

In the afternoon, meet your local guide for an exciting introductory tour of Tbilisi, Georgia’s vibrant and charming capital. Your first stop will be the iconic Monument to King Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of the city. From here, enjoy breathtaking views overlooking the old quarters of Tbilisi.

Next, ascend by cable car to Narikala Fortress, a historic citadel that has protected Tbilisi since the 4th century. The panoramic views from its ancient walls reveal a captivating blend of old and new—church domes, modern glass architecture, and the sprawling city below.

Descend on foot into the Abanotubani district, famous for its traditional Sulphur bathhouses, whose domed brick roofs are a beloved symbol of the city. Stroll past Tbilisi’s only mosque, a unique example of religious harmony, before continuing along the lively Shardeni Street, a hub of cozy cafés, wine bars, and artisan shops.

Marvel at the whimsical clock tower of the Rezo Gabriadze Puppet Theatre, a fairytale-like structure that enchants both locals and visitors.

Cross the futuristic Bridge of Peace to reach Rike Park, a green oasis in the city center, and round off the day with a visit to the Open Air Museum of Ethnography, where traditional houses and artifacts from various regions of Georgia offer a glimpse into the country’s diverse heritage.

Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Jvari – Uplistsikhe – Kutaisi

After breakfast at the hotel, set off towards Mtskheta, one of the most ancient cities in Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once the capital of the Eastern Georgian Kingdom of Iberia, Mtskheta remains the spiritual heart of the country.

Your first stop will be at the Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century masterpiece of early medieval architecture perched on a cliff overlooking the breathtaking confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari Rivers. Continue to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where it is believed that the robe of Christ is buried beneath the foundations.

Journey next to Uplistsikhe, an extraordinary rock-hewn town dating back to the early Iron Age. Wander through its caves, temples, and tunnels carved directly into the cliffside. The site presents a fascinating blend of pagan and Christian architectural elements, making it a unique cultural treasure.

Continue your road trip westward, crossing the Rikoti Pass, the natural divide between Eastern and Western Georgia. Pass through Georgia’s longest tunnel (1,722 meters), symbolically connecting two halves of the country. Arrive in Kutaisi, Georgia’s second-largest city, formerly known in antiquity as “Aia.”

Overnight in Kutaisi.

Day 3:Kutaisi – Gelati – Prometheus Cave – Mestia

After breakfast, visit the imposing Bagrati Cathedral, an iconic 11th-century structure that rises above Kutaisi, offering expansive views of the city and surrounding hills. Then, head to the nearby Gelati Monastery and Academy, a UNESCO-listed site founded by King David the Builder in the 12th century. Once a major center of education and science, the complex remains a powerful symbol of Georgian cultural heritage.

Continue to the mesmerizing Prometheus Cave, one of the most impressive karst caves in Europe. Marvel at its massive halls adorned with colorful stalactites and stalagmites, underground lakes, and an optional boat ride through its subterranean river.

In the afternoon, begin your ascent into the high Caucasus mountains, following the wild Inguri River Gorge into the mysterious region of Svaneti. Home to the fiercely independent and culturally unique Svan people, this region is renowned for its stone towers, pristine nature, and traditions passed down through millennia.

Arrive in Mestia, the cultural center of Upper Svaneti. Explore the original “machubi” (Svanetian dwelling) and defensive “koshki” towers, some dating back to the 9th century.

Overnight in Mestia.

Day 4:Mestia – Ushguli – Mestia

Fuel up with a hearty mountain breakfast before setting off in 4×4 vehicles towards Ushguli, Europe’s highest continuously inhabited village, situated at 2,200 meters above sea level. The road to Ushguli winds through rugged terrain and alpine landscapes, providing stunning photo opportunities along the way.

Explore the UNESCO-protected Ushguli architectural complex, where stone towers rise against a backdrop of Mount Shkhara (5,193 m), Georgia’s tallest peak. Visit the Lamaria Church, a modest yet sacred 12th-century chapel adorned with ancient frescoes. According to local legend, Queen Tamara herself is buried beneath the church.

Wander through the village’s cobbled paths and gain insight into the Svan way of life, which has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. Return to Mestia and visit the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography, one of Georgia’s finest regional museums, housing ancient manuscripts, icons, weapons, and traditional costumes.

Overnight in Mestia.

Day 5:Mestia – Kolkheti National Park – Batumi

After breakfast, descend from the highlands toward the subtropical lowlands of western Georgia. On the way to Batumi, stop at the Kolkheti National Park, located near Poti, to explore the lush wetlands of the Colchic lowlands, once the cradle of the ancient Colchian civilization.

Enjoy an unforgettable motorboat tour (approx. 1.5 hours) through the tranquil waters of Paliastomi and Pichori Lakes, observing rare birds and water-loving flora in this relict ecosystem. The park is a paradise for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts.

Arrive in Batumi, the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, situated on the Black Sea coast. Known as Georgia’s premier seaside resort, Batumi is a delightful mix of modern architecture, seaside charm, and historic neighborhoods.

Check into your hotel and enjoy free time to relax, walk along the seaside promenade, or enjoy Batumi’s culinary offerings.

Return to Batumi for lunch, followed by a guided walking tour of the Old Town, where history whispers from ornate 19th-century buildings. Enjoy the artisan atmosphere of narrow streets filled with traditional crafts, especially copperware, and fragrant cafés brewing Georgian-style coffee.

Continue to Europe Square and Piazza Square, where eclectic European-style buildings reflect Batumi’s international heritage. Visit the Alphabetic Tower, a tribute to the Georgian script, and stop by the moving statue of Ali and Nino, a symbol of eternal love.
