Begin your journey at Martyrs’ Lane, known locally as ‘Shehidler Khiyabany,’ where you can enjoy stunning views of the coastline. Explore Icheri Sheher, the old city, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000, and admire its well-preserved 12th-century walls. Visit the impressive Shirvanshah’s Palace, the historic Caravanserai, and the iconic Maiden Tower, along with the bustling main market square filled with art studios and souvenir shops. Your exploration continues on Nizami Street and Fountain Square, culminating at the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre. This architectural wonder, designed by the renowned Zaha Hadid, showcases the diverse Azerbaijani culture through exhibits of traditional costumes, musical instruments, and exquisite carpets. Today, delve into the Greater Baku area and the Absheron Peninsula. Your adventure begins at Gobustan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007. Visit the Petroglyphs Museum and explore ancient rock carvings that date back to 10,000 BC. Next, marvel at the fascinating mud volcanoes in Gobustan Reserve, where nearly half of the world’s mud volcanoes are located. Afterward, travel to Ateshgah, the temple of fire worshippers in Surakhany village, where Zoroastrians journeyed from India to honor the eternal flames. Your day concludes with a visit to Yanardag Mountain, where natural gas has been burning for thousands of years. Return to your hotel in Baku for an overnight stay.
In the morning, depart Baku for Quba, one of Azerbaijan’s largest cities, nestled in the picturesque hills 170 km (105 miles) north of Baku. Once the capital of the Quba Khanate in the mid-18th century, Quba is now celebrated for its stunning carpets, scenic landscapes, and delectable sweets. As you explore the city, visit significant architectural and historical sites, including the Juma Mosque and various mausoleums. You’ll also have the opportunity to experience a local hamam for a taste of traditional relaxation. Enjoy your overnight stay in Quba.
After breakfast, set off for the village of Khinalug, which was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2023. The journey takes you through the majestic Great Caucasus mountains, reaching elevations of up to 2,000 meters above sea level. Along the way, take advantage of numerous photo opportunities to capture the breathtaking landscapes. Khinalug is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Azerbaijan, with a history spanning over 5,000 years. After exploring this remarkable village, return to Baku for an overnight stay at your hotel.
In the morning, check out from your hotel and head towards Sheki. On the way, stop at the Diri Baba Mausoleum in the village of Maraza, a site of historical significance. Continue to Shamakhi to visit the beautifully restored Juma Mosque, which showcases stunning architecture. Next, explore the Mausoleum of Yeddi Gumbez, known for its seven domes and the graves of Shamakhi governors.
After visiting the mausoleum, proceed to the archaeological site in Agsu, where you can explore the fascinating ruins of Medieval Agsu Town. Following your explorations, continue your journey to Sheki, a charming medieval town nestled in a lush mountainous area. After checking out from your hotel, start your day by visiting the vibrant Sheki Bazaar. When the time comes, our team will transfer you to Baku International Airport for your departure.
