Gotsa Winery

Gotsa Winery, Georgia

Gotsa Winery, an organic family estate nestled within a stunning oak forest in Kiketi, Georgia, is just a scenic 40-minute drive from Tbilisi. This enchanting winery offers an impressive selection of natural Georgian wines, including red, white, and organic amber varieties. At the helm of this family-run venture is Beka Gotsadze, the chief winemaker, who is dedicated to employing traditional farming and grape cultivation methods to ensure that Gotsa wines are as pure and chemical-free as possible. Alongside the exquisite wines, guests are treated to home-cooked meals, embodying the winery’s warm motto: “Come as a guest and leave as a friend!”

The roots of the Gotsadze family trace back to Tskhratskharo in western Georgia, where their ancestors began winemaking in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, the family relocated near Tbilisi, continuing their rich winemaking traditions. The Gotsadzes innovatively transported grapes from the lower foothills to the cooler mountain climate, allowing for a more delicate fermentation and aging process that imparts a unique character to Gotsa wines.

At Gotsa Winery, traditional winemaking practices are seamlessly integrated with organic production principles. The winery employs qvevri, large earthenware vessels that have been utilized for centuries in Georgian winemaking due to their ability to maintain a consistent temperature year-round. These qvevri are not only ideal for wine preservation but also excel in primary and malolactic fermentation, maceration, micro-oxygenation, natural filtering, and the development of tannins and flavors.

Every bottle of Gotsa wine is completely free of additives and crafted from grapes grown on the family vineyard in Asureti. The winery features a small laboratory where Beka meticulously checks the wines for acidity, sugar levels, and other essential parameters.

A delightful surprise for many visitors is the qvevri beer produced by Gotsa Winery! What began as a fun experiment has turned into a regular offering, with all ingredients sourced locally. Beka describes it as “a beer for wine lovers,” making the tasting experience truly unique.
