Next, delve into the historic charm of the old quarter, Icheri Sheher. Here, you’ll visit the iconic Maiden Tower and the majestic Shirvanshahs’ Palace, as well as the Bukhara Caravanserai and the bustling Market Square filled with local art studios and souvenir shops. To conclude your day, visit the renowned Heydar Aliyev Center, a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. On your second day, the Azerbaijan Classic Tour will take you beyond the city to explore the Greater Baku area and the Absheron Peninsula. Begin your journey at Gobustan National Park, where you’ll discover ancient petroglyphs dating back over 10,000 years and visit the informative Petroglyphs Museum. After breakfast, depart in the morning for the picturesque Quba Region in northern Azerbaijan. Your destination is Khinalug, one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the country, boasting a history of over 5,000 years. The journey to Khinalug takes you through a scenic mountain pass, offering breathtaking views as you ascend to an altitude of 2,000 meters.
Upon arrival in Khinalug, take time to explore the village and experience its unique culture and traditions. On your return journey, stop at several notable sites, including the mass grave in Quba, the historic Sakina Khanum Mosque, a traditional medieval bathhouse (hammam), and a local carpet workshop where you can witness the artistry of Azerbaijani craftsmanship. After a fulfilling day, return to Baku for another overnight stay at your hotel.
At 08:00, depart from Baku and set off towards Sheki, making your first stop at the Diri Baba Mausoleum in the village of Maraza. Continue your journey to Shamakhi, where you will visit the historical Juma Mosque, which was beautifully restored in 2013.
Weather permitting, drive through the stunning Girdimanchay River Canyon to reach the ancient village of Lahij, known for its rich history and artisanal craftsmanship. Explore the cobbled streets and visit various workshops specializing in jewelry, copperware, wool carpets, pottery, and traditional daggers.
Afterward, continue to Sheki, a charming medieval town set amidst lush mountainous landscapes. Arriving in Sheki around 19:00, you will have the evening free to explore the town at your leisure or relax at your hotel. Start your day with a visit to the vibrant Sheki Bazaar, where the air is filled with the aromas of fresh fruits, spices, and baked goods.
