Day 2Tbilisi City Tour – Layers of Time and Culture

Meet your local guide for a comprehensive tour of Tbilisi, a city where centuries of history blend seamlessly with a modern, vibrant lifestyle. Begin at the iconic Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba), one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world, an architectural symbol of the country’s spiritual revival. Continue to Metekhi Church, standing proudly on a cliff overlooking the river, near the monument of King Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi.

Next, ascend by cable car to the ancient Narikala Fortress, where breathtaking panoramic views of the city’s rooftops, bridges, and winding streets will unfold before you. Descend into the atmospheric Abanotubani district, famous for its historic sulfur bathhouses, and pass by Tbilisi’s sole mosque, a testament to the city’s multicultural heritage.

Wander through the lively Sharden area, a maze of narrow lanes lined with inviting cafes, boutique wine bars, and artisan shops, capturing the spirit of old Tbilisi. Visit the Sioni Cathedral, home to a revered cross of St. Nino, and the Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest surviving church in the city. A must-see stop is the whimsical Clock Tower of the Rezo Gabriadze Puppet Theatre, a charming architectural gem.

In the evening, savor a delightful welcome dinner at a traditional Georgian restaurant, accompanied by a vibrant folklore show, offering an unforgettable introduction to the country’s music and dance traditions. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 3:Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Ananuri – Kazbegi – Highland Adventures

After breakfast, set off for an exciting journey beyond Tbilisi. The first destination is Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Eastern Georgia and a sacred spiritual hub. Explore the Jvari Monastery, a 6th-century gem perched on a hilltop, offering sweeping views over the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. Then visit the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture and the legendary burial site of Christ’s robe.

Continue your journey towards the mountains, stopping at the Ananuri Fortress Complex, a picturesque ensemble of churches and defensive towers overlooking the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir. This 16th-17th century site served as a strategic stronghold for local nobility.

Drive along the scenic Georgian Military Highway, gradually ascending towards the Greater Caucasus range. Pause at a mineral water spring cascading down a colorful hill, a natural marvel. By late afternoon, arrive in the alpine town of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), dominated by the towering Mount Kazbek (Mkinvartsveri), standing tall at 5,033 meters.

Weather permitting, take a drive or hike up to the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church, majestically set at 2,170 meters above sea level. The panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks and deep gorges are simply breathtaking. Overnight at a hotel in Kazbegi.

Day 4:Kazbegi – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Return to Tbilisi

After breakfast, journey towards Gori, the birthplace of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Visit the Stalin Museum, which preserves over 60,000 artifacts, including his personal belongings, the humble house of his birth, and his armored railway carriage used for international conferences.

Proceed to explore the remarkable Uplistsikhe cave town, an ancient rock-hewn settlement dating back to the 1st millennium BC. Wander through its labyrinth of rock-carved halls, temples, and passageways that illustrate a unique fusion of pagan and Christian traditions.

Return to Tbilisi by evening for an overnight stay, reflecting on the rich layers of Georgian history experienced today.

Day 5:Tbilisi – Kakheti Wine Region – Telavi Charm

Today, head eastward to the lush Kakheti region, the cradle of Georgian viticulture. Traverse the scenic Gombori Pass, offering panoramic views of verdant hills and valleys. Arrive in Telavi, the administrative and cultural heart of Kakheti, known for its charming old town vibe. Enjoy a short walking tour through its quaint streets and stop by the monument of King Erekle II, a revered Georgian monarch.

Continue to Tsinandali Estate, the historic residence of the noble Chavchavadze family. Explore its elegant 19th-century mansion, stroll through the beautifully landscaped English garden, and visit the ancient wine cellar, where traditional Georgian winemaking methods come to life.

The next stop is the impressive Alaverdi Cathedral, dating back to the 11th century. This architectural marvel, set against the backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, is among the tallest religious buildings in Georgia. Return to Telavi for an overnight stay.

Day 6:Kakheti – Gremi Fortress – Wine Tunnels – Sighnaghi – Bodbe – Tbilisi

After breakfast, continue uncovering the treasures of Kakheti and the Alazani Valley. Visit the imposing Gremi Fortress, a 16th-century citadel and former royal residence of the Kakheti Kingdom. Its monumental towers and church, set amidst rolling vineyards, evoke tales of a bygone era.

Next, delve into Georgia’s winemaking heritage at the renowned Khareba Winery, where an extraordinary wine cellar is carved deep into a mountainside tunnel. Originally built for military defense, the tunnel now serves as an ideal environment for aging fine wines. Enjoy a guided tour followed by a delightful wine tasting session.

Proceed to Sighnaghi, often called the “City of Love”, a picturesque hilltop town encircled by well-preserved defensive walls with 23 watchtowers. Its cobblestone streets, pastel-colored houses, and panoramic views over the Alazani Valley make it one of Georgia’s most charming destinations.

Before returning to Tbilisi, make a stop at the Bodbe Monastery, a revered pilgrimage site believed to be the final resting place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century. Today, the monastery functions as a nunnery and spiritual retreat. In the evening, drive back to Tbilisi for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, check out from the hotel by noon. Enjoy some free time for last-minute shopping or simply soak in the city’s atmosphere before your transfer to Tbilisi International Airport.
