Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Tashkent

Welcome to Tashkent! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your driver and transferred to your hotel for check-in, available from noon. Begin your journey with a guided tour of Uzbekistan’s vibrant capital, the largest city in Central Asia. Explore the Old City, home to the Khast-Imam Complex, where the legendary Quran of Caliph Uthman is preserved. Admire landmarks like the Barak-Khan Madrasah, Tillya Sheykh Mosque, and the Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum, alongside the Islamic Institute of Imam al-Bukhari. Stroll through the bustling Chorsu Bazaar, followed by a memorable metro ride to the city center. Visit the Applied Arts Museum, Navoi Theater, and conclude at Amir Timur Square. Overnight stay in Tashkent.

Day 2:Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva

Catch an early morning flight to Urgench (1 hour 40 minutes). Upon landing, transfer to your hotel in Khiva. Begin your guided walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Ichan-Kala Fortress, a well-preserved medieval town.

Explore the architectural wonders of the fortress, including Mukhammad Aminkhan and Mukhammad Rahimkhan madrasahs, the Kalta-Minor Minaret, Juma Mosque, Tash-Khovli Palace, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, and the Islam Khoja Minaret. Spend your afternoon enjoying free time in this historic city. Overnight in Khiva.

Day 3:Khiva – Bukhara

Leave Khiva and embark on a drive to Bukhara (480 km, 7-8 hours). Travel through the Kyzylkum Desert, a route once part of the Great Silk Road. Pause to enjoy scenic views of the Amu Darya River and the surrounding desert.

Arrive in Bukhara by late afternoon and check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxation. Overnight in Bukhara.

Day 4: Exploring Bukhara

This morning begin a walking tour of Bukhara’s Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visit the Lyabi-Khauz Complex, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Chor-Minor Madrasah, bustling trade domes, Kalyan Mosque, and the majestic Kalyan Minaret. Admire the Miri-Arab Madrasah, Ulugbek Madrasah, Abdulazizkhan Madrasah, Ark Fortress, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, and the Samani Mausoleum. Overnight in Bukhara.
Duration of sightseeing: 6-7 hours

Day 5: Bukhara to Samarkand

Start your day with visits to Bukhara’s outskirts, including the grand summer residence of the last emir, Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa, and the Mausoleum of Bakhouddin Naqshbandi.

In the afternoon, drive to Samarkand (280 km, 4 hours). En route, stop at the historic Rabat-i-Malik Caravanserai, dating back to the 11th century. Arrive in Samarkand in the evening, check in to your hotel, and unwind. Overnight in Samarkand.

Day 6:Samarkand’s Highlights

Today, enjoy a full day exploring the majestic city of Samarkand. Start with a visit to the Registan Square, the ruins of Bibi-Khanum Mosque, and the bustling Siab Bazaar. Visit the Ulugbek Observatory, Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis, and the impressive Gur-Emir Mausoleum, resting place of Amir Timur. End the day with a leisurely stroll through Samarkand’s charming streets. Overnight in Samarkand.

Duration of sightseeing: 6-7 hours

Day 7:Samarkand to Tashkent

After checking out, visit the Afrasiab Museum and the Tomb of Saint Daniel. Next, head to Konigil village to learn about the traditional craft of making Samarkand paper from mulberry.

Enjoy some free time before transferring to the railway station for the Afrosiyob high-speed train to Tashkent (2 hours). Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the night.

Day 8: Tashkent – Kokand – Fergana

Embark on a scenic drive to the Fergana Valley (320 km). The journey takes you over the picturesque Kamchik Pass (2,267 meters above sea level). Stop in Kokand to explore Khudoyar-Khan Palace, Jami Mosque, Kamol-Kazy Madrasah, and Norbut-biy Madrasah.

Arrive in Fergana city and visit Akhmad Al-Fergani Park before checking in to your hotel. Overnight in Fergana.

Sightseeing duration: 4-5 hours

Day 9: Fergana – Margilan – Rishtan – Fergana

Travel to Margilan to visit Said Akhmad-Khoja Madrasah, home to local craftsmen producing silk and carpets. Tour the Yodgorlik Silk Factory to observe the traditional Ikat silk-making process.

If it’s Thursday or Sunday, explore the bustling Kumtepa Bazaar. Proceed to Rishtan to meet a renowned ceramic artist, Rustam Usmanov, for a pottery workshop. Return to Fergana for an overnight stay.

Sightseeing duration: 4-5 hours

Day 10: Fergana – Osh – Bishkek

Cross the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border and meet your Kyrgyz guide in Osh. Tour the city, visiting Suleyman-Too Mountain, the National Museum of History and Archaeology, and Osh Bazaar.

Fly to Bishkek in the afternoon and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Bishkek.

Day 11: Bishkek – Ala-Archa – Bishkek

Travel to Ala-Archa National Park to explore its alpine beauty, fast-flowing rivers, and snowy peaks. Spend time hiking or relaxing in nature. Return to Bishkek for a city tour, including Oak Park, Ala-Too Square, the Manas Statue, Philharmonic Hall, and the Victory Monument. Overnight in Bishkek.

Day 12: Bishkek – Issyk-Kul

Drive to Issyk-Kul Lake, stopping at Burana Tower, a relic of the ancient Balasagun city. Upon arrival, settle in at your hotel on the north shore of the lake. Enjoy the serene mountain setting.

Day 13:Issyk-Kul – Grigorievskoe Gorge – Bishkek

Visit Grigorievskoe Gorge, known for its breathtaking scenery. Continue to Cholpon-Ata to view ancient petroglyphs and the Ethnographical Museum. Drive back to Bishkek for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.

Day 14:Departure from Bishkek

Check out by noon and transfer to the airport, concluding your 14-day Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan adventure.

The 14-day Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan tour was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a blend of history, culture, and nature. The itinerary was thoughtfully designed, giving us ample time to explore the vibrant cities of Tashkent, Khiva, and Bukhara, as well as the breathtaking natural landscapes of Kyrgyzstan. Highlights for me included walking through the ancient streets of Samarkand, witnessing the intricate silk-making process in Margilan, and hiking in the serene Ala-Archa National Park.
